The Night Project- Evaluation

I am happy that I chose "The Circus" as my theme. I really enjoyed researching it and coming up with design ideas.

Cushions:
I think that my cushions came out really well and I really enjoyed making them. I think that the designs were good because I had two different designs and then two versions of the designs. I also decided to experiment with masking tape to create stripes on the cushions so that they would relate more to my research. I think that the wadding was the best material to use to stuff the cushions with. I also liked how some of the cushions were landscape and some of them were portrait. If I made the cushions again I would make bigger sizes so they are more like sofa cushions.

T-shirt:
I think my t-shirt turned out really well because I tried out the design on paper first to make sure I was happy with it. After I washed it there was still some blue showing around the design which I didn't like. Luckily I decided to hand wash it and it came out but it made part of the design at the bottom fade. Even though this happened I think that it fits in more with my circus ( The Circus of Nightmares) because it makes the design look more dream like.

Mugs:
I really liked how the mugs came out. I tried to do the exactly the same design on the mugs as the cushions and t-shirt but I found it quite difficult to get the contortionist drawing right. So instead I decided to draw some black and white circus tents on one mug. And I sketched out the letter "M" for the other mug in the same font that I would have used for the circus posters so that it would all tie in.

The Night Project- Designs

I designed some products based off my research of the circus.  I decided that I wanted the same or a similar design for each product. I found a drawing of a contortionist and another photo of black and white stripe circus tents. I liked these designs for my products because I think they fit really well with the circus theme.

The Night Project- Circus

In my group critique most people said that they really liked my circus research so I have chosen to do that for my theme. I have done some more research in my sketchbook for American Horror Story Season 4 Freak show. I have also done a bit more research on The Night Circus.

Using my research I created my on mind map for my own circus ideas.

Two Week Project- The Night: Day 1 - Day 4

We also tried screen printing. I used black and dark green to try and resemble a night vision camera. I also tried to draw lions with the paint but it didn't work because when I spread the paint all the colours got mixed in.

Rotation Week- Photography: Ephemeral- Evaluation

I really enjoyed the photography rotation week because I think that Photography is one of my biggest interests. I especially liked being able to do the cyanotypes and I like how they turned out. I found the topic "ephemeral" a bit difficult to research because I felt like it was very vague.

Rotation Week- Photography: Ephemeral- Day 3 & Day 4

On day three we did cyanotypes. We had to bring in an object that fitted the theme ephemeral. I decided to bring in a bracelet. I think that a bracelet is ephemeral because I don't always wear it and when I do it's for a short period of time.

I also decided to find an image of ocean waves. I'm really happy with ow both of the cyanotypes worked out

Day 4:

I love Jake Saxman's phtographs because they are really interesting and beautiful to look at. He has a blog where he posts all of his photographs.

Nick Night also has a website where yoy can find his work.

Rotation Week- Photography: Ephemeral- Day 1 & Day 2

Day 1:

Day 2:

We had to find a picture of something that was ephemeral. I chose to do bubbles because I think they are a prime example of something that is ephemeral. I printed the picture on acetate and scratched into it using a pin. I wanted to go around the bubbles so that they were outlined white but it was quite hard to scratch the ink off because the picture was really light. So instead i found that if I pressed down really hard with the pin and drew around the bubbles, it would raise them from the other side. I also traced over the bubbles with different colour permanent markers.

Rotation Week- 3D: The City- Evaluation

I liked this week because we got to try sculpting and that was one of the main things that I wanted to try. I really liked designing and developing my ideas for my sculptures and taking inspiration from my research. I preferred working with crank because I found it was a lot easier to sculpt. I would really like to make sculptures for future projects.

Rotation Week- 3D: The City- Day 3 & Day 4

On day 3 we experimented with drawing with wax and then going over it with ink. I tried using Batik and balls of wax.

We then had to draw our sculptures with wax. I decided to use the Batik method because it showed up a lot more. I then went over the wax with watered down ink so it came out grey. Then I shaded the drawings with normal ink.

On day four we had to recreate our sculptures out of paper/card. I designed them both in my sketchbook and then made them out of card.

Rotation Week- 3D: The City- Day 1 & Day 2

From our research of the city we had to create clay sculptures. I designed a vase that was inspired by the buildings in Paris.

I added flower pots on the outside of the windows

I also designed a lantern that was inspired by the Greek island Santorini at night.

Rotation Week- Illistration and Graphic Design: Journey- Evaluation

I enjoyed going to the Bristol Museum and drawing in my concertina book. I would definitely use the concertina books again because I think it is a really nice way of presenting your work afterwords. I also would like to try using the continuous line drawing with the concertina books because I think it would look really interesting when it is all filled out. I didn't really like the graphic design part of the week because I found it hard to keep in the theme of Journey.

Rotation Week- Illistration and Graphic Design: Journey- Day 1 & Day 2

Today we went to the Bristol museum. I also drew things around the museum in my concertina book.

Rotation Week- Fine Art: The Body- Evaluation

I enjoyed doing the life drawing because I had never had the opportunity to do it before. I also really liked researching about different artists and being inspired by their work to create something of my own. I especially liked making the lungs because I never worked with wire before and I would really like to do in the future.

Rotation Week- Fine Art: The Body- Day 4

I created another sculpture today. I was inspired by Valeria Dalmon's sculptures of human bodies with animal heads. I like he sculptures because they are really detailed and unique which is quite eye catching.

For my sculpture I cut out two panels and then sewed buttons for eyes, a button for the nose and whiskers on to the front of one panel. I then hand stitched them together and left the stitches showing because I like the way it looks. If I had more time I would of added more detail so that it looks more like on of Valeria Damon's sculptures.

We also made concertina books for our trip on Monday to go to a museum in Bristol.
