Rotation Week- Fine Art: The Body- Evaluation

I enjoyed doing the life drawing because I had never had the opportunity to do it before. I also really liked researching about different artists and being inspired by their work to create something of my own. I especially liked making the lungs because I never worked with wire before and I would really like to do in the future.

Rotation Week- Fine Art: The Body- Day 4

I created another sculpture today. I was inspired by Valeria Dalmon's sculptures of human bodies with animal heads. I like he sculptures because they are really detailed and unique which is quite eye catching.

For my sculpture I cut out two panels and then sewed buttons for eyes, a button for the nose and whiskers on to the front of one panel. I then hand stitched them together and left the stitches showing because I like the way it looks. If I had more time I would of added more detail so that it looks more like on of Valeria Damon's sculptures.

We also made concertina books for our trip on Monday to go to a museum in Bristol.

Rotation Week- Fine Art: The Body- Day 3

Today we had to create a 3D model inspired by our research. I decided to make lungs out of wire and then wrap thread around it. I also made some flowers and sewed them on to add a bit more detail. I was mostly inspired by David Oliveira's sculptures where he sometimes adds little details like butterflies to his work.

I tried to use wire inside the lungs to make it more like David Oliveira's sculptures but i found it quite hard to bend the wire in all the right places so instead I used different colour thread to make the sculpture more eye catching.

Rotation Week- Fine Art: The Body- Day 2

David Oliveira has his own gallery in Lisboa and works in Portugal, Spain, United Kindom and Turkey. He makes sculptures out of wire and his work is essentially a work of visual perception to the viewer. He also has his own blog where he posts images of his work.

Gavin Worth is self taught and makes his sculptures out of steel wire. He is currently living and working in Lausanne, Switzerland. He also has his own blog and website. I like how elegant and simple his work looks and when you look at it from a different angle you see the sculpture differently.

Rotation Week- Fine Art: The Body- Day 1

On day one of the Fine Art rotation we had to make observational drawings from a life model. We had to try to complete a drawing in different amounts of time in different ways. First we had to do two detailed drawings, one in 10 minutes and the other in 15 minutes but I didn't like how they turned out. Then we had to do a negative space drawing in coloured pencil. I liked how it turned out because of how abstract it looks.

Then we had to do another negative space drawing, this time around the model. I really liked how this turned out because it really stands out because of the darker background.

For our final drawing we could chose how we would draw the model. I chose to do a negative space drawing again but this time using a graphite stick so that it would look a lot darker.

Rotation Week- Fashion & Textiles: Evaluation

I liked the fashion week because I got to try things that I hadn't had the opportunity to try before, like the heat press. I also liked learning about deconstruction and reconstruction and the ways it is used in the fashion industry. I think that I also would like to use fashion & textiles for future projects.

Rotation Week- Fashion & Textiles: Day 3 & Day 4

Task:

We took inspiration from Jum Nakao and Alexandra Zaharova for both or our paper designs. We decided that for design 1 we would make a layered skirt. We measured how much paper we needed and then began to wrap it around the manikin. While we did this we thought of the idea to put wire around the bottom of each layer to give it more structure. To do that we folded part of the paper over and secured it with masking tape then fed the wire through it. We secured everything with masking tape because we found it was a lot easier and stronger than using pins. When the skirt was finished we decided to turn our design into a backless dress. So we cut out two triangles about the same size and folded them individually to create a look that resembled a fan, like in the pictures we found for our inspiration. We then taped the front of the dress together and cut on of the shoulders to give it an edgier look.

For our second dress we measured how much paper we needed so that it would fit around the manikin. Then we cut it out and taped it together. For this design we decided to have one of the sleeves have a cut out from the shoulder to the elbow. We the added two triangular cut outs to the shoulders and then made four paper fortune tellers to stick on top because we liked the shape of them and how it looked similar to one of our inspiration pictures.

Rotation Week- Fashion & Textiles: Day1 & Day 2

Task:

I brought in an old tank top that was two different shades of turquoise. I wanted to deconstruct it so it looked different to it's original form but keep the fit of the t-shirt so that it was still wearable. To do this I cut a fringe at the bottom of the t-shirt. I then pulled on the pieces so they would look more circular and tied a knot in each of them. I decided to cut some holes in at the top of the t-shirt to give it a shredded look. I am happy with how the t-shirt looks but next time I would use a t-shirt that was a darker colour so that it would fit more in to the deconstructed theme.

On the heat transfer paper I used different colour dyes to create a pattern so that it would transfer on to the fabric.

I used different fabric to see if the colour of the dyes would change. I liked the outcome of the lace the best. I also put the paper with the dye on behind it because I thought it looked really interesting and made the colours stand out more.

Task:

I decided to use hand embroidery on my fabric from the day before. I like hand embroidery because you can see that it took a lot of time and effort to create. I also experimented with paper instead of fabric.
